The  DMET ( Directorate of Marine Engineering and Training ) now known as DMET/MERI operating under IMU ( Indian Maritime University ) is the Oldest Premier Institution for Marine Engineering  formed way back since 1949 with first batch passing out from the college in 1953 .

The institutions has produced finest Marine Engineers and caters not only to Indian  Maritime Industry but the industry world wide.

Today most of the shipping companies and ship Management companies have employed large number of Marine Engineers who have graduated from DMET.

 Hong Kong being one of the Major hubs for shipping has large number shipping and ship management companies and have been employing good number of Marine engineers both at sea and ashore and these engineers hold high positions in the companies ashore .

Thus considering the large number of ex-DMET persons in Hong Kong it was felt to start an Alumni association and accordingly the association was formed in 2010 .

The Association follows the Bye laws of Hong Kong and strictly abides by the rules and law of Hong Kong .

The association presently has members in excess of 130 and is growing steadily .

The aim of the association to build strong bond of Brotherhood amongst the members , to give back to our alma -mater in every manner possible and to contribute positively to the society we live in for well being of our fellow beings as well to the city’s  well being to the best possible.

The association has regular office bearers and as well a Management Committee which meet quarterly as far as possible to discuss various issues . In the last MC meeting the members suggested and discussed to hold medical check up for domestic helpers of all nationalities , hold some technical seminar which are good initiatives and various persons have been made incharge to persue the issues.

It was also discussed to stay in touch with Consultate General Of India , various local authorities to discuss and see how our association can assist the community .

The association holds various functions for members and families such as Holi, BBQ’s and annual functions and these have been great success and I have seen all the members and families enjoy the events.

 

 

 

Last but not the least it was felt and suggested by the members and MC to form a web site for the association which will be used for all the functions . Accordingly the process has been started.
